School library -  Schulbibliothek

                        Bibliothèque scolaire

What it means to be a school librarian in the 21st century? One might wonder, what s behind this name.

School librarian? Information technology specialist? Media specialist? Education teacher? Well, it is pretty much the same!

Descriptions will vary, depending on the viewpoint of the interlocutor but the profession is at its core devoted to working with teachers, students, and administrative staff to positively impact the learning process.

It is a job that brings me new challenges daily.

Some of my responsibilities are to:

* manage and to provide interdisciplinary collections to meet the educational and cultural needs of our learning community

* To collaborate with teachers and parents in order to create exciting experiences (inviting authors, promoting reading, writing and literacy skills ...)

* To guarantee free access to information and intellectual freedom

* provide learning opportunities for students on computers and other informational technology

To put it into simple words, my presence here is not only limited to a physical presence, but as a school librarian my responsibilities are multiple and we are quite far away from the old school libraries we went to in our times. School libraries are busy places that buzz with ongoing activities.

Our most successful events occur when authors[1] pay a visit to our school library. Classes and teachers come to the library and discuss with the author about their readings. It always is a great opportunity for both students and adults to discover new books and have passionate debates over various subjects.
